Central Area
Refurbishment
Refor
Most villages and towns in this country have a town square or similar central area around which the community sits and events take place. Our Village Green is some distance away from the shops and public transport access and so this project (which was proposed in the Neighbourhood Plan) entails refurbishing the area on the North side of St Jude's Road in between Victoria St and Alexandra Road to create just such a space. The trees and hedges have become very overgrown, blocking light from the homes behind and the space will be redesigned to allow for a safer and more suitable environment and will generally create a more useable area in the centre of our Village

Creating A Heart for Our Village

To undertake the works, we have received grants from Surrey County Council (thanks to County Councillor, Marisa Heath and others) and from Runnymede Borough Council (thanks to Borough Councillors Berardi and Gates). Work will start on Monday 12th January through our not-for-profit company, EG Community Projects CIC and is expected to be completed around 27th February 2026.
The drawing below is a visual representation of what the space will look like on completion. Care has been taken to repurpose and re-use existing street furniture and paving, while a Village sign, information boards and finger posts will be installed. Bike racks will also be part of the re-design and electrical access installed so our Christmas Tree can be located in this area in the future, allowing a safer, more pleasant environment for it. The re-designed space will also be large enough for small Village events as and when.
More information will become available as the project commences and we hope you'll look forward to the new look which will truely create a wonderful centre for our Village!
